AIM:To investigate the changes of tear film after small incision non-phacoemulsification cataract surgery(SICS).METHODS:A total of 136 cases who underwent SICS in our department were chosen randomly.Values including tear break-up time(BUT),Schirmer Ⅰ test(SⅠt),cornea fluorescein staining(FL),and subjective dry eye symptoms(Sx)preoperatively and 1 week,2 weeks,1 month,2 and 3 months postoperatively.And the changes in these parameters were also evaluated.RESULTS:Compared with preoperative values,there was significant aggravation in subjective complain within 3 months postoperatively.SⅠt increased within 2 weeks and FL increased within 1 month follow-up examination,furthermore,BUT decreased before the 4th reexamination.The differences between groups were significant(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:SICS may influence quality and stability of the tear film among cataract patients a period of time after surgery,in order to minimize the unexpected effect,test of tear film function should be emphasized.
