Identification of rare paired box 3 variant in  strabismus by whole exome sequencing

Recommended ReasonStrabismus is a common ocular disorder with  genetic heterogeneity and has an undetermined genetic background. The authors  collected a Chinese pedigree with strabismus and sequenced the exomes of two  affected individuals using the next-generation sequencing technology. Whole  exome sequencing and filtering identified a nonsynonymous mutation c.434G-T  transition in PAX3 in the two affected individuals, which were predicted to  be deleterious by more than 4 bioinformatics programs. This gene encodes a member  of the PAX family of transcription factors, which play critical roles during  fetal development. The c.434G-T mutation (p.R145L) in PAX3 may contribute to  strabismus.

【推荐理由】斜视是一种常见的眼部疾病,具有遗传异质性,遗传背景不明。作者利用新一代测序技术收集了一个中国斜视家系中的两个患者的外显子。全外显子组测序和筛选识别出两个患者的PAX3基因的一个非同义突变c.434G-T,并被超过4个生物信息程序预测为不利突变。该基因编码PAX转录因子家族成员,在胎儿发育过程中扮演关键角色。因此,PAX3基因的c.434G-T  (p.R145L)突变可能与斜视相关。

Recommended ReasonThis paper is to assess and compare the diurnal  macular choroidal area fluctuation in normal and primary open angle glaucoma  groups.The results found that neither the fluctuation manners nor the change in  macular choroidal area between the two adjacent measurement time points  showed significant difference between normal and POAG groups

【推荐理由】该文对比研究了正常组和原发性开角型青光眼组中黄斑区脉络膜面积的日间波动。结果发现两组中黄斑区脉络膜面积在相邻测量时间点的波动方式和变化均没有显著差异。

Recommended ReasonThe authors  investigated prospectively the change of anterior angle morphology and  intraocular pressure (IOP) after cataract surgery in 42 patients with  normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) 64 patients without NTG. They demonstrated that  cataract surgery decreased IOP and improved anterior chamber angle  parameters, and that such alterations in IOP and angle parameters were  significant only in NTG group.

【推荐理由】该作者对42正常眼压性青光眼患者和64例单纯白内障患者术后前角形态与眼压改变进行前瞻性研究,结果显示仅在正常眼压性青光眼组白内障术后眼压降低,房角参数显著改善。

Recommended ReasonPrevious study shows Ang-2 plays a complex role in  regulation of vascular remodeling leads to either vessel sprouting or  regression. The study showed the  different roles of Ang-2/Tie2 system in inflammatory angiogenesis for the  first time despite of the same microenviroment. The authors suggested that  blocking Ang-2/Tie2 signaling pathway might open the new therapeutic applications in pathological processes  such as to improve the rate of (corneal) graft survival, promote wound  healing and reducepossibility of  carcinogenesis.

【推荐理由】以往研究显示,Ang-2在调节血管重构致血管再生或消退中的作用复杂。该研究首次发现尽管处于相同的微环境,炎症诱导血管再生时Ang-2/Tie2通路具有不同作用。作者建议阻断Ang-2Tie2信号通路可能会在病理状态下开辟新的治疗方法,例如提升(角膜)移植存活率,促进伤口愈合与降低癌变的可能性。
