Densiron 68 heavy silicone oil in the management of inferior retinal detachment recurrence: analysis on functional and anatomical outcomes and complications

This study assessed the efficacy and safety of a heavy silicone oil (Densiron 68) in the management of inferior retinal detachment recurrence. Functional outcomes, rate of recurrences, the presence of inflammatory complications and intraocular pressure alterations were evaluated. The results showed that Densiron 68 is a useful surgical tool to manage inferior complex retinal detachment, as a second step for eyes which have already undergone pars plana vitrectomy with a SSO tamponade and might lower the risk of proliferative vitreoretinopathy in the inferior quadrant.

Comparison of clinical outcomes of deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty and excimer laser assisted anterior lamellar keratoplasty in keratoconus

The study aimed to compare and evaluate the clinical outcomes of deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) and excimer laser assisted anterior lamellar keratoplasty (ELLK) in eyes with keratoconus. The results ELLK could be a valuable alternative to penetrating keratoplasty or DALK for keratoconus patients. Compared with DALK, complication rate is lower, the surgical technique is simpler, fast and ELLK requires less experience.

Comparison of peripapillary and macular choroidal thickness and ganglion cell complex thickness in glaucomatous and healthy eyes

This study assessed choroidal thickness (CT) and its association with ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer thickness (GCIPLT) and retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFLT) in open angle glaucoma (OAG) comparing with preperimetric glaucoma (PPG) and normal eyes. The conclus?on shows PCT is thinner in OAG and PPG compared with healthy eyes. The correlation of RNFLT and PCT found in OAG and PPG was not revealed in normal eyes.

Comparison of the impact of nesofilcon A hydrogel contact lens on the ocular surface and the comfort of presbyopic and non-presbyopic wearers

It has been reported that presbyopes prefer contact lens (CL) correction when good vision and comfort can be achieved. International surveys of CL prescribing for presbyopes reveal that CL fittings are much less frequent in older age groups. These data show that many CL wearers stop using their CLs at the onset of presbyopia. The authors assessed and compared the interaction between a daily disposable CL and the ocular surface in a presbyopic and non-presbyopic population, and evaluate CL comfort after one day of use. The findings of this study evidence that the behavior of the daily disposable CL with high water content seemed to be stable during the day of use. Ocular parameters measured during wear showed that CL behavior was the same for presbyopes and non-presbyopes, being more uncomfortable for presbyopes.
